MAF WILL BE RAISING FUNDS IN SUPPORT OF HARM REDUCTION AND OUR OUR HOUSELESS COMMUNITY
ABOUT THE MAUI VISITOR INDUSTRY CHARITY WALK
The Visitor Industry Charity Walk is one of the hospitality industry’s way of giving back to our communities. It is one of the largest single-day fundraising events in Hawaii with walks on Kaua’i, Oahu, Hawaii Island, and of course Maui Nui. Together the state raised just over $2 million in 2022. Maui County alone contributed to that, and raised $1,063,027 benefiting more than 50 Maui County non-profit agencies! Since Maui Hotel & Lodging Association started hosting the Charity Walk in 1980, a cumulative total of $16.5 million has been raised in Maui County. And most importantly all of the money raised here, stays in Maui County, benefiting our residents.
Through the collaborative efforts of each of organizations’ supporters, the success of this amazing event can continue. Through fundraising efforts, the Charity Walk positively impacts the lives of our local residents, with funds that directly benefit worthy organizations in our community who work to provide essential services like meals and shelter, health services, and so much more. With a common goal of building a better, healthier Maui County for all.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
MAF will be participating in the walk this year to raise much needed support for houseless community in Maui County. We need your help! We are looking to build our Charity Walk team and show our support for the MAF mission and our community. It will be a fun and meaningful time! The full experience will be filled with fitness, fun, entertainment, and giveaways while raising funds and awareness for our island charities.
As an organization, we are excited to participate in support of providing vital resources to many who do not have access to care. This year's hybrid event includes a weeklong virtual walk leading up to the popular in-person event. We will be walking to support our houseless community through our partnership the Maui Police Department. You can walk with us and pledge or donate towards our cause if you can not attend. Please take a moment to learn about this initiative and the services our walk will support. Your participation in joining the team and your donation will help fulfill vital life-saving needs among our loved community.
MAF's HARM REDUCTION PROGRAM | SUPPORTING THE MAUI COUNTY HOUSELESS POPULATION | In partnership with the Maui Police Department
The Maui AIDS Foundation Harm Reduction, Prevention and Education Department is considered the “frontline” as our staff provides Sexual Health, Overdose Prevention, and Community Programs utilizing a Harm Reduction approach to our Maui County community. Through our testing clinic, we engage with he IDU (intravenous drug use) population and provide education for individuals who test positive for HCV (Hepatitis C Virus). MAF has made a significant connection through our Outreach program with the Maui Police Department (MPD) to increase the number of services for our Houseless, IDU, and Mental Health affected populations. Our connection with MPD has been one of our most tremendous successes here in the County of Maui. Through our Overdose program, MAF has provided monthly Naloxone training as well as distribution to the MPD, community health providers, IDU individuals, and people in our general population in Maui County.
