Maui AIDS Foundation’s Clinical Services Department encompasses its PrEP Program and Chlamydia and Gonorrhea Program, both of which are offered at no cost to at-risk and underserved communities of Maui County. The PrEP program launched in February 2017 to provide case management and referrals for those seeking Truvada-for-Pre-Exposure-Prophylaxis services, and two months later MAF’s on-staff nurse practitioner started prescribing PrEP in-house. To augment these PrEP services along with those testing services offered by MAF’s Prevention Department, MAF partnered with the Hawaii Department of Health in February 2019 to offer free tests and treatments for chlamydia and gonorrhea. The Clinical Services Department maintains its own credentialing with insurance companies and has implemented its own electronic medical record system, however in alignment with MAF’s goal of offering free, comprehensive sexual health services for Maui County, it does not charge clients, patients or insurance for the services provided.
Testing and knowing your status is an important factor in prevention. All of our testing services are FREE and CONFIDENTIAL. We offer HIV, Hep-C, and syphilis testing. All testing is conducted by appointments. Our HIV and Hep-C tests take 20 minutes for your results, while syphilis tests take 10 minutes. However, your appointment will last 30 minutes or more. We offer STI testing in Lahaina twice monthly. We also test on Molokai and Hana. Our testing hours may vary so please call (808) 242-4900 to inquire.
Education plays a significant role in the prevention of HIV & STIs. Knowing the facts about these viral and bacterial infections helps in the fight against them. Being informed is also a way to help eliminate fears and stigma concerning HIV and STIs. MAF’s prevention team offers free HIV 101s, Speaker Bureaus, Cultural Competency Trainings, and Sexual Diversity to the community of Maui County. We strive to educate about HIV in a safe, comfortable and simple manner. We try our best to tailor our educational programs to fit the needs of various ages, settings and cultures. Outreach is an essential part of prevention. It is a means to provide our services outside the traditional office setting to people of our community. Our outreach efforts are to reach those who may be at risk, but are not accessing services. Our outreach workers can be found at various locations throughout Maui County. We provide information, education, safer-sex kits and testing in Kihei and Lahaina twice monthly. We also go to Hana and Molokai. Call for more information.
